The Chinese Australian Forum (CAF) marked its 40th Anniversary with a gala dinner held in Sydney on 5 September 2025, bringing together more than 400 guests from government, business and the wider community to reflect on four decades of contribution and to look ahead to the future.
The evening was honoured by the presence of the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, whose attendance underscored the significance of the occasion and the important role community organisations play in strengthening social cohesion.
As the Prime Minister noted:“Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths. For 40 years, the CAF has brought communities together, encouraged dialogue and built understanding through its advocacy.”

In his opening remarks, CAF President Simon Chan described the anniversary as a significant milestone, noting it was especially meaningful to mark the occasion in his final year as President, alongside the Prime Minister as Guest of Honour.
He highlighted that the Chinese Australian Forum is a not-for-profit, non-partisan community organisation that has played a prominent role in combating racism and fostering greater engagement of Chinese Australians in Australia’s social, political, economic and environmental life over the past four decades.

Since its establishment, CAF has served as an important platform for dialogue, connection and civic participation, supporting multicultural engagement and fostering greater understanding across communities in Australia.
The event provided an opportunity for guests to reconnect, exchange ideas, and reflect on the evolving role of multicultural communities in shaping modern Australia. It also highlighted the ongoing importance of participation, inclusion and civic engagement in an increasingly complex global and social environment.

At a time when divisions can too easily emerge, the spirit of unity demonstrated by the Chinese Australian community remains both timely and essential. CAF extends its sincere appreciation to all supporters, partners and participants who have been part of this journey — and who will help shape its next chapter.
