CAF media release

Chinese Australian Forum strongly condemns the recent violence against the Chinese couple at the playground near Eastgardens in Sydney. Racism against the Chinese Australian community is again on the rise after the racial abuse experienced by the Asian communities during the COVID pandemic. We appreciate the action of the police in dealing with this particular incident. While law enforcement acts as a deterrent, it is equally important that we promote the value of community cohesion, racial harmony and multiculturalism through education, particularly for the next generation of our young Australians.

Our political leaders should lead by example in maintaining social cohesion and it certainly does not help with recent comments by Senator Jane Hume discriminating against Chinese Australians and accusing them of being Chinese spies without any proof while they were only participating in the Australian democratic process by helping at a polling booth. She weaponised Chinese Australian volunteers to attack an opponent in the election for political gain. We all need to work together as Australians to continue to maintain Australia as the best Multicultural country in the world.
