Letter to Attorney General on Anti-Discrimination Laws

The Chinese Australian Forum (CAF) raised some concerns with the Attorney General's Office. The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) had called for anti-discrimination laws to be set aside during the same-sex marriage plebiscite debate. The CAF is opposed to setting these laws aside. The reason is that the CAF believes existing laws such as s116 of the Australian Constitution already protects religious expression and various other state laws prevent vilification on the bases of sex and gender. The ACL had already made assurances that none of their arguments will vilify or hate. If that is the case then the ACL have nothing to fear by the working laws already in place. The CAF is concerned that setting aside anti-discrimination laws will create a dangerous precedent for anti-racism laws as well.
