GOOD AUSPICES AS McKEW WOOS CHINESE VOTERS
ACCORDING
to the ancient practice of feng shui, the seat of Bennelong is
"the golden auspicious site" for new migrants. It is also
considered "eye of the dragon".
The descriptions were
reported in the Sydney Korean Society Bulletin last month and seized
upon yesterday by Chinese Australian Forum president Tony Pang, who
warned: "If the eye falls, everything will fall."
His comments were not lost
on Labor's candidate for Bennelong, Maxine McKew, who is working to unseat
John Howard in the Sydney
electorate he has held since 1974.

LABOR'S McKEW ADDRESSES CHINESE FORUM
Labor candidate Maxine
McKew openly admits to mumbling through parts of the national anthem,
but says that doesn't make her less Australian.
It was an admission that
drew respect from an audience predominantly of Chinese heritage who
gathered, one of whom questioned Ms McKew on the current Australian
citizenship test.
"I think our model of
Australian citizenship has a lot more to do with what's in here than
what we are writing on a piece of paper," Ms McKew said indicating
to her heart while addressing members of the Chinese Australian Forum
at Eastwood.
